McCarthy was unveiled as Usuthu’s latest coach on Monday, replacing Ayanda Dlamini who has been redeployed to the club’s youth development ranks.

McCarthy wasn’t in the dugout for AmaZulu’s 2-0 defeat against Golden Arrows on Wednesday at Kings Park as assistant coach Allan Freese, who had prepared the side for the match, took charge.

According to the Kickoff website, McCarthy, who previously coached Cape Town City FC, is expected to bring in his own technical team.

That technical team could include at least two Premier Soccer League legends in Siyabonga Nomvethe and Moeneeb Josephs.

“Yes, Nomvethe is back at the club and it’s unclear whether he will be assisting McCarthy or there’s another role being proposed to him within the team,” revealed a source.

“Moeneeb is also on his way back to be part of the team.”

In addition, reports of former Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United midfielder Daine Klate joining the management team have also been confirmed by another source.

THIRD LOSS IN SEVEN MATCHES

AmaZulu’s defeat to Golden Arrows was their third loss in seven matches this season.

They are currently in 12th-place in the log – a long way off a top 4 spot that McCarthy said he was aiming for at his unveiling.

AmaZulu will play their final league match of the year on Sunday, December 20 against Chippa United.

Kick-off is at 15:30.
