Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Thabo Qalinge appears to have impressed Benni McCarthy since arriving at AmaZulu.

Qalinge was invited to train with Usuthu last week after months in the wilderness following his release from SuperSport United in July 2020.

And McCarthy can’t stop raving about the winger despite only getting to know the 29-year-old upon his arrival at the AmaZulu training grounds.

“He is a good boy and a fantastic player. I got to know him a few days ago and he seems to settle in very well with the boys,” McCarthy told FarPost.

“He knows a few players in the team which makes it easy for him. We will see,” said McCarthy.

McCarthy confirmed he will engage AmaZulu boss Sandile Zungu, Qalinge and his agent to see how far the talks can go.

“I will have a conversation with the chairman, his agent, and himself (Qalinge), and then we will see where we go from there but so far it has been very nice to have him,” added McCarthy.

The 43-year-old mentor feels Qalinge would bring a different dimension to Usuthu but admits the club owner will have the last say.

“He brings something different and more quality to the group that we already have; that is something we might look at but I will leave everything to the owner of the club,” concluded McCarthy.

Qalinge is an experienced campaigner with 114 competitive matches with eight goals and 11 assists to his name since turning professional in 2014.
