Orlando Pirates star Evidence Makgopa’s former coach Dylan Kerr has confirmed that the striker opted to join the Buccaneers over a move to European giants Copenhagen!

Makgopa joined the Buccaneers from Baroka FC in 2022 after impressing for the Limpopo side.

The 24-year-old who scored seven goals in just 14 appearances under Kerr received an offer from Danish side FC Copenhagen back in 2022.

Makgopa however opted to join the Soweto giants where he has since made 32 appearances for the Orlando Pirates over the last two seasons.

The towering attacker scored six goals while assisting three more for the Buccaneers. He may not be as prolific as Tshegofatso Mabasa however, his incredible work-rate makes him a favourite of Jose Riveiro’s.

Makgopa chose Orlando Pirates over Copenhagen – Kerr

“There was a time Evidence Makgopa was supposed to go to Europe. I think it was in Denmark but instead he joined Orlando Pirates,” Dylan Kerr told Soccer Laduma.

“That was the right time for him to have left and went to Europe. I know him as a player and as a person. He could have made it in Europe and become a big star. I think he couldn’t have spent a long time in Denmark as teams from the Premier League could have scouted and signed him.”

In other news, Vincent Pule may be leaving the Buccaneers on a loan deal next month!

Pule made just three starts for Orlando Pirates last season. The talented winger has found the going tough since Jose Riveiro joined the club.

The arrival of Patrick Maswanganyi and the promotion of Relebohile Mofokeng also hasn’t helped the former Wits star at all.

And now, reports suggest a loan move could be on the cards for the speedy winger.

Pule was previously linked with a move to Sundowns while his former Wits coach Gavin Hunt is also reportedly pushing to sign him.

The Orlando Pirates ace made 57 appearances under Gavin Hunt during his time at Bidvest Wits. He managed to score eight goals while registering six more assists for the Clever Boys.

Bucs to take big decision on Vincent Pule

“The Soweto giants will make the call on whether he will go on loan in the new season or he will choose to remain at the club and seek a way back to the field,” a Kick Off report read.

Pule was linked with a move to SuperSport United last season, and now following his recent struggles at the club, those links have resurfaced.

“Vincent Pule was handed a three-year contract extension last year. However, the Orlando Pirates winger has struggled to re-cement his place in the team due to injuries and stiff competition for places. His former Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt’s SuperSport United have made inquiries regarding his availability ahead of the winter transfer window.” senior Goal journalist Austin Ditlohobolo reported.
