Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane believes South African football would be elevated to another level if Video Assistant Referee (VAR) was introduced.

‘10111’ was speaking after his side lost to Orlando Pirates on penalties in their Carling Black Label Cup match where Amakhosi were denied a goal after Ashley du Preez was adjudged to have been in an offside position.

According to multiple reports, VAR was supposed to be tested this past weekend, but it didn’t happen because FIFA didn’t permit PSL as they were not informed in time.

Zwane said he wasn’t aware that VAR was supposed to be in place, but supported the idea of introducing it.

ARTHUR ZWANE ON THE NEED OF VAR

“I did not know (about VAR),” he said as quoted by Daily Sun.

“But I think we need that but for me at some point, I think it delays the game. It kills the momentum because we will have to wait when there’s something that has happened (when VAR is checking).

“But we are trying to take the game to another level and we’ll allow it (VAR) to take place. That would be a plus for South African football.”
