Just last year, Golden Arrows made the appointment of Lehlohonolo Seema as their new head coach in July.

The 41-year-old, who had previously helped Chippa United avoid relegation via the Premier Soccer League (PSL) promotion/playoffs, succeeded Mandla Ncikazi as coach of the Durban-based club.

However, according to well-known broadcaster Robert Marawa, Seema has now reportedly been fired by Golden Arrows.

Seema, who hails from Lesotho, was always going to have his work cut out for him at Arrows, but the club has ultimately underperformed this season and are currently ninth on the DStv Premiership standings – having won just seven games.

An official announcement is expected soon, with the heavy 6-0 loss Arrows suffered against Sundowns on Tuesday seemingly having expedited the decision.

The news comes just the day after SuperSport announced that coach Kaitano Tembo had been fired by the club, with assistant Andre Arendse taking over on an interim basis.

The football fraternity was also largely left in shock when Benni McCarthy was unceremoniously axed by AmaZulu recently.

Too early for Golden Arrows to pull the trigger?

Some may also feel it is premature for Golden Arrows to have let Seema go less than a year after taking on the top job.

He started the 2020/21 season as coach of the Chilli Boys before leaving to join Black Leopards. However, fter being sacked by Lidoda Duvha, he returned to Gqeberha with Chippa United and helped them to avoid the drop via the playoffs.

Seema had also managed Bloemfontein Celtic and spent the majority of his playing career in South Africa, having turned out for Celtic, Orlando Pirates and Mpumalanga Black Aces.

Earlier this year, Golden Arrows were just given a slap in the wrist for the improper registration of midfield star Simo Mbhele.

Abafana Bes’thende were charged and found guilty by the PSL Disciplinary Committee (PSL DC) – which came after they pleaded guilty to the charge.

Arrows signed Mbhele from the SAFA Regional League at the start of the season but the midfielder failed to disclose that he had spent some time in Portugal.
