REPORT: Another playmaker growing uneasy at Chiefs

There is reportedly a sense of frustration building for Chiefs attacker Kamohelo Mahlatsi due to limited game-time.

Kamohelo Mahlatsi was expected to form a key part of a new-look Chiefs side under Arthur Zwane after joining Amakhosi from Swallows on a three-year deal earlier this year.

However, as it’s turned out, the 24-year-old has barely featured for Chiefs in the league, and according to a Phakaaathi report, there is a growing sense of displeasure in the player’s camp.

“We all understand that everyone has to work hard for a place in the team,” said a source, as quoted by Phakaaathi. “But when your player is not given a chance it leaves one wondering what else he has to do to show the coach that he is ready to play for Chiefs.

“We don’t want a similar situation like Siphelele Ntshangase, who stayed in the team but was not used, then next thing he is washed out. We see the same happening in other big teams in the country where players’ careers are killed. We don’t want that with this young man.”

Meanwhile, there increasingly seems to also be uncertainty about the Chiefs future for Njabulo Blom, who has displayed some encouraging form interspersed with quieter moments in the midst of some injury setbacks.

According to the latest issue of Soccer Laduma, Blom has actually been offered to SuperSport United “in unofficial discussions… potentially as a free agent at the end of the season given that Amakhosi are unlikely to sell him”.

On Sunday, a further report appeared in the Sunday Times, which highlighted comments from Blom’s agent Rob Moore, who apparently accused Chiefs of offering “peanuts” for the 22-year-old as contract extensions hit a stumbling block.

A source with details of the developments told the newspaper that the various parties remain at odds.

“I can confirm that Blom’s contract has not been renewed. The problem is around the head coach and the sporting director (Kaizer Motaung Jr). There was an element of arrogance on their part in handling the matter,” said the insider.

“As we speak today (Friday) the likelihood of that boy signing is two out of 10. Those chances are very slim. It is not completely closed but maybe this thing needs Kaizer Senior to have coffee with Rob and see if something positive can be reached.”

Blom’s contract expires on June 30 next year, and he has been linked to SuperSport United or Mamelodi Sundowns. Any possible new clubs will know they could enter into a pre-contract with the youngster from January.
