AmaZulu FC played out to a disappointing goalless draw with fellow relegation candidates Baroka FC in their PSL encounter at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

AmaZulu 0-0 Baroka: PSL match report

After a slow start at the Lucas Moripe Stadium, the first chance of the afternoon in the PSL fell to AmaZulu’s Tsepo Masilela in the 9th minute, he unfortunately headed just wide of the Baroka goal after Talent Chawapihwa put in a delightful cross into the box.

Baroka midfielder Gerald Phiri Junior came close with a well taken freekick in the 14th minute however the Malawi international’s strike deflected just wide of the opposition goal.

Watch: Makgopa goes close

AmaZulu goalkeeper Neil Boshoff produced a fine one-handed save to deny a powerful Evidence Makgopa from a tight angle in the 31st minute to keep the Limpopo side waiting for their first PSL goal since the restart of action.

Baroka striker Lungelo Nguse picked up the first yellow card of the afternoon after sweeping through Bongi Ntuli in the 34th minute.

The remainder of the first half between AmaZulu and Baroka in their PSL clash went by without any entertainment with both teams patiently waiting on the back foot.

AmaZulu looked the brighter of the two PSL teams in the opening stages of the second half but Elvis Chipezeze stood firmly to deny Usuthu on a few occasions while Bonginkosi Makume became the second Baroka player to be yellow carded in the 62nd minute.

Both teams looked for a late winner however a serious lack in precision in the final third meant clear goal scoring opportunities were few and far between in the second half with the game ending in a goalless draw.

The draw lifted Usuthu out of the relegation zone above Polokwane City who face Kaizer Chiefs this afternoon to 14th position while Bagaga remain in 13th position, just ahead of Usuthu on goal difference.
