AmaZulu confirms Kaizer Chiefs interest in their key player!

Kaizer Chiefs and AmaZulu are not known to have a good working relationship when it comes to transfers of late, due to the Siyethemba Sithebe saga.

It now appears that Chiefs have already started circling around AmaZulu again. This time the player in question seems to be forward Sphesihle Maduna. 

Chiefs eyeing Maduna?

It was reported late last year already that Chiefs were eyeing Maduna, and were waiting to see what would transpire with regards to the player’s contract situation at AmaZulu. It is believed that the player is contracted to Usuthu until the end of the next season, meaning Amakhosi would have to fork out a transfer fee to get him, and cannot currently sign him on a pre-contract like Sithebe last season.

However, it seems like Chiefs were caught up in the confusion regarding the expiry date of the player’s contract. The Glamour Boys seem to have been led to believe that the player’s deal at AmaZulu was going to expire at the end of this current season, and had already been lining up a free transfer for the 23-year-old. 

AmaZulu chairman confirms interest

AmaZulu chairman Sandile Zungu has since cleared up any such confusion and went a step further to confirm that Chiefs were just one of a few teams that had expressed an interest in the services of Maduna.

“Kaizer Chiefs did talk to us some time ago. It’s just one of the parties that contacted us about Maduna, . He’s our player for quite some time. He signed a new contract two seasons ago. I hear people saying he’s going [at the] end of this season. He’s got another season with us.” Zungu told Far Post

Will Amakhosi pay?

Now that Chiefs know that money will be required in order to get AmaZulu to part with Maduna, it remains to be seen if they will be willing to sit down and do business with the club who they seem to have issues negotiating with in the past.
