Amazulu and Kaizer Chiefs were involved in what seemed like a heated transfer saga as Amakhosi tried to lure Siyethemba Sithebe six months earlier.

Amazulu rejected player swap

Chiefs’ efforts had become so intense towards the end of the January transfer window, that they reportedly offered Amazulu two players in exchange for Sithebe.

Amazulu then turned those two players down very publicly, with that going on to cause a big stir with regards to South African football supporters on social media. The stir came from the fact that Amazulu chairman Sandile Zungu not only turned the Chiefs players down, but called them “rejects”.

Zungu looks to clarify his comments.

Speaking to Marawa Sports Worldwide podcast, however, Zungu seems to be backtracking from his comment of calling Chiefs players rejects. Well either that or he is just backtracking from a seemingly harsh choice of words.

The Amazulu chairman then expresses his regret at calling Chiefs players rejects.

Shows signs of regret

“To describe them as rejects quite frankly is regrettable because I’d never want anybody described as such, but they were surplus to the other team’s needs. It’s like saying ‘let me take your wife, I’ll give you my wives’.” concluded Zungu

It seems as if Zungu has already started a war with the Chiefs supporters, if not Chiefs officials themselves. Will these comments be enough to appease the situation regarding the relations between these two clubs? Or are the bridges already burnt?
