Advantage Orlando Pirates in race for long-term Kaizer Chiefs target! 

Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs have been given huge encouragement by Cape Town City in their pursuit of midfielder Thabo Nodada.

Nodada has been a target for both Pirates and Chiefs in previous seasons, but Cape Town City had managed to keep ahold of his services.

The Ixopo-born midfielder has been a loyal servant to Cape Town City since the club bought the status of Mpumalamga Black Aces. Since the move to the Western Cape, Nodada has lifted two MTN 8 cups with his current side, with him establishing himself as a key player for the club. That has only seen the player attract the attentions of the country’s best teams including Mamelodi Sundowns in that list with Pirates and Chiefs.

Initially it had been Chiefs who were hot on the heels of Nodada, with sources close to the player confirming to The South African News in 2018 that Amakhosi team manager Bobby Motaung had approached City for the player’s services. However, they were quickly rebuffed by then coach Benni McCarthy who saw the midfielder as indispensable.

In the recent transfer window’s it was widely Pirates who were credited with the most interest in Nodada, with indications that they were going to launch a bid for his services at the start of the current campaign. Sundowns were also then thrown into the picture and could yet be back for the player at the end of the current season.

According to Soccer-Laduma, the end of this season could be the biggest chance for Nodada to sign for either Chiefs, Pirates or Sundowns, with the club giving its blessing.

This is because they reported that Cape Town City chairman John Comitis is finally ready to sell Nodada, provided the club get a good offer for his services. Now according to the same publication, it is Pirates who seem to be leading the way in terms of the pursuit of the midfielder. 

Pirates leading Chiefs for Nodada?

“Indications are that the Buccaneers are leading the race for the player this time around, with their rivals Amakhosi believed to also be showing serious interest. According to sources, the Houghton-based side have registered their interest in Nodada with the view of possibly adding him to Jose Riveiro’s squad for next season” wrote the publication.

It looks like it will now be up to either Pirates or Chiefs to table the most enticing offer to City, in order to win the signature of Nodada.
