Despite having enjoyed a successful first season in Saudi Arabia, it’s been suggested recently that Pitso Mosimane could be set for a shock exit from Al Ahli.

Although the popular South Africa coach led Al Ahli back into the Pro League, iDiski Times recently reported that the word from Saudi media suggests that the club will not renew Mosimane’s contract.

Yet, when Mosimane appeared on Saudi Arabian TV, he suggested there was a clause in his contract that could add another twist to this tale.

“I have a clause in my contract that stipulates the extension of the contract when the team gets promoted to the Saudi league, so why should I change it?,” he said after the match, as per Yallakora.

According to a previous report by Goal Arabic, Al Ahli’s President Walid Moaz has decided to “betray” Mosimane by beginning the search for a new coach at a time when many would have expected an extension to his initial one-year contract.

“It’s not certain Ahli will look for a new coach … but we don’t know,” a source commented. “Really this club is so unpredictable – they can last minute say we will keep [Pitso Mosimane] and in the next hour they will say we’re taking a European coach, it’s bizarre what’s happening, but it is what it is you know.”

“I think South Africa knows that normally we wake up and then there is an action, so let’s not spoil the surprise. Let’s leave it at that, we’re still cooking some stuff,” she said.

“[The] Mission has been accomplished but where to from here? Let’s just leave it [at that], we’ll announce.”
