Mosimane: Al Ahly can win Super Cup again!

Pitso Mosimane will lead Al Ahly in the CAF Super Cup against Raja Casablanca in Qatar on Wednesday night.

Mosimane is aiming to win his third CAF Super Cup which would be his second with Al Ahly. He won it with Mamelodi Sundowns in 2017, and again with Al Ahly in his first season as their head coach.

“The CAF Super Cup is a final game and we have to respect it. We have good memories from that game last year. We have won it last year and we believe we can win it again,” Moismane told his club’s official website.

“Whenever we land here, we feel welcomed and a little bit ahead. It is always a good opportunity to interact with our fans here in Qatar. I hope they come to see us, just as they did when we faced Bayern Munich, Palmeiras, RS Berkane, and Al Duhail. They believe in us, support us and give us motivation.

“I have nine players who played in the FIFA Arab Cup and they were not feeling good when they came back. Ali Maaloul lost the final, Badr Benoun lost the semi-final and the same happened for the Egyptian national team players. We have to understand that we have nine starters in the team and I saw them only yesterday, at the time that I have a match tomorrow.”

“We only had one training session yesterday (after the return of the international players) and we do not have a training today because we have a match tomorrow. It is tough for us, but it is our life. The players understand the principles and philosophy of how we play. We are a big team, and we will do well.”

Mosimane says there can be no excuses

“When you coach a team like Al Ahly, you can never complain about stress or you should not be here. You are coaching Al Ahly, the biggest team in the continent.

“When Mohamed Sherif rejoined the team, I told him that we are waiting for you to score tomorrow. We believe in him. He was the team’s top scorer last year and he is the top striker of the team.”

Mosimane has a full squad available for this game with the likes of Percy Tau and Mohamed Sherif included in the 29-man squad.

WHERE TO WATCH THE MATCH ON TV?

According to the TV guide, the match between Al Ahly and Raja Casablanca will be screened LIVE on SuperSport Variety 4 in South Africa.

This is rare considering that the previous CAF Super Cup matches involving teams outside of South Africa were not shown before.

However, after SuperSport’s acquisition of the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) TV rights, CAF admitted that the media house is crucial for the growth of African football.
