Maritzburg United coach Fadlu Davids will NOT be joining Josef Zinnbauer at Moroccan Raja Club Athletic despite initial attempts to bring him in.

On Thursday, Raja appointed Zinnbauer as their new coach on a two-year deal following the sacking of Mondher Kebaier.

Now, according to iDiski Times, Zinnbauer wanted to bring in Davids as one of his assistants but the Raja hierarchy didn’t agree to that.

And that’s because they wanted Zinnbauer to be assisted by someone who can speak either French or Arabic to ensure communication flows smoothly.

Zinnbauer eventually conceded, and it is reported that his former colleague at Bundesliga’s Hamburg SV Patrick Rahmen is now a strong favourite to join Raja as an assistant.

“iDiski Times has been informed that the German had insisted that Davids be part of his technical team at the club as he negotiated his two-year deal and talks prolonged for hours with the club President Boudrika where they deliberated his potential appointment.

“However, they came to the consensus that he would require a local assistant to overcome the barriers of not being able to speak French or Arabic, in order to hit the ground running and get his new tactical system across to the side that looks set to miss out on the CAF Champions League next season as they languish in sixth place in the Moroccan top-flight.”

FADLU DAVIDS BATTLING TO SAVE MARITZBURG UNITED’S PSL STATUS

As things stand, Davids is facing a mammoth task of the saving Maritzburg United’s topflight status – the club is in the PSL Promotional Playoffs.

Maritzburg United need to win their next two games against Casric Stars on Saturday, and Cape Town Spurs next Wednesday to retain their PSL status.

They are under immense pressure to achieve that objective as Cape Town Spurs have already collected nine points from the three games they have played.

A draw for Spurs against Maritzburg United will be enough while Davids’ men cannot afford to slip up against Casric Stars as that would mean relegation for them.
