It’s on. Orlando Pirates know the enemy in the CAF Confederation Cup final. Here are 10 things to know about the team known as “Orange Boys.”

Orlando Pirates have a job, and it’s against Morocco’s Renaissance de Berkane, better known as RS Berkane.

The event will be the 2021/22 CAF Confederation Cup final in Uyo, Nigeria on Friday 20 May.

ORLANDO PIRATES AND RS BERKANE SEAL PLACES IN THE FINAL

As The South African reported on Sunday night, Bucs marched into the final despite a 1-0 loss to Al Ahly Tripoli. How so?

Pirates had the job done in Libya last weekend where the Soweto giants claimed a 2-0 win in the first leg.

The opponent for the final, RS Berkane, got their task done in the second leg on Sunday. The Moroccans lost 1-0 at TP Mazembe last weekend before responding with a 4-1 win in Berkane.

  1. The club is nicknamed the Orange Boys
  2. Berkane have never won the Moroccan league title but became Morrocan Cup champions in 2017/18
  3. The team won the CAF Confederation Cup in 2019/2020
  4. The current team has six foreign players in their squad who are all African
  5. Berkane are currently in 7th place in the Moroccan League after seven wins in 22 games
  6. The Orange Boys are coached by the ‘Congolese Pitso.’ His name is Florent Ibenge
  7. Coach Ibenge’s accolades include a CAF Champions League silver medal with Congolese giants AS Vita in 2014
  8. Ibenge also claimed second prize with Vita in the 2017/18 CAFCC final
  9. Ibenge claimed third place as the national team coach of Congo at AFCON 2015
  10. The coach also took the DRC to the AFCON 2017 quarter-final.

So will Ibenge’s superb experience make the difference against the Orlando Pirates duo of Mandla Ncikazi and Fadlu Davids on Friday? Perhaps it will be up to the players on the night.
