Mokwena wants his players to cherish playing against Wydad

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena says his players need to enjoy the moment as they take on Wydad Casablanca in the first leg of the CAF Champions League sem-final.

The Brazilians taken on the Champions League defending champions at the Stade Mohammed V on Saturday evening.

The tow teams have met 10 times in the Champions League since 2017 with the Moroccan giants edging ahead with four wins.

Mokwena side have won three and the other three games ended in draws.

“We have to fight and we know nothing is given to you on a silver platter. And we mush also enjoy the opportunity, these are moments that come once in a lifetime,” Mokwena said to The Citizen.

Sowns come into the match following their impressive performance against CR Belouizdad which saw beat the Algerian team 6-2 in aggregate.

Mokwena however knows it won’t be easy agaist Wydad

“We know their level, and they know our level. They know we are very good team and that we can play our football with a good mentality …. on any pitch.

“It will be a good game against the defending champions, with good pedigree in the Champions League. It is an interesting game between two good teams with two good sets of players,” Mokwena said.

Wydad could struggle to keep with with the in-form Downs

Wydad reached the semis after overcoming Tanzania’s Simba 4-3 on penalties following a 1-1 aggregate score.

Wydad did not look convincing against Simba but Mokwena knows that the Moroccans have a habit of turning up when it matters the most.

Sundowns have only ever reached the finals once back it 2016 and went on to win the torunament
