FIFA Puskás Award explained

The FIFA Puskás Award is an award established on 20 October 2009 by the Fédération Internationale de Football Association, at the behest of then-president Sepp Blatter, to be awarded to the male or female judged to have scored the most aesthetically significant, or “most beautiful”, goal of the calendar year. It can be scored by anybody, at any level of football.

Ronaldo, Kane and Bolt loved Masuluke’s outrageous Baroka goal

Olivier Giroud’s ‘scorpion kick’ goal for Arsenal against Crystal Palace received the Puskás award in a tightly contested race with Masuluke, with Cristiano Ronaldo saying during the ceremony that both men deserved it, but he was a big fan of Masuluke’s strike.

“It’s hard to name one, but I have to give credit to the goalkeeper,” Ronaldo said when asked who he favoured.

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane also named Masuluke when asked who he backed to win.

“It had to be the goalkeeper, with the bicycle kick. Incredible goal and celebration as well,” he said.

“I’d vote for Oscarine Masuluke. For a goalkeeper to score an overhead kick in stoppage time like that is impressive,” said Olympic sprint legend Usain Bolt
