Do you remember a Mamelodi Sundowns player by the name of Bennett Mnguni? Perhaps you should because even Zinedine Zidane is most likely to remember him.

FORMER MAMELODI SUNDOWNS STAR SAYS HE OUTSHINED ZINEDINE ZIDANE

Considering Zidane’s class as a player, this sounds all outrageous but then again, Mnguni had quite a unique playing style. The former Bafana Bafana international was a particularly fast, hard-running central midfielder who had fine technique on the ball and outstanding athleticism, isn’t that special?

Soon after making his move from Mamelodi Sundowns to Russian giants Lokomotiv Moscow, the Pretoria-born former player met Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League.

It was where he would test himself against the great Zidane. But the French icon was to be introduced to the special South African talent who scored a goal in the 2-2 draw in Madrid.

“After the game, Zidane came to me asked for my jersey and he said to me, ‘no one has ever outplayed me’,” Mnguni told Thabiso Mosia on MetroFM Sport, as quoted by iDiskiTimes.

“He asked what is your name and where are you from and why are you playing in Russia? I got the jersey of Ronaldo [Nazario], Zidane, [Roberto] Carlos and [Iker] Casillas.

“I said to Zidane that I’m from South Africa and he asked what am I doing in Russia and why am I playing there.

“I said I’m there to work. He was very impressed with me. I knew with Zidane I had to be the first man on the ball and that was the only way” Mnguni concluded.
