Mamelodi Sundowns moved to the summit of Africa Football Clubs Rankings for the first time on Monday after dethroning Al Ahly.

This is according to Footballdatabase.com, who published the latest rankings following the matches that were played this past weekend.
Sundowns were away to Cameroonian giants Coton Sport in the CAF Champions League on Friday, and they easily beat them 3-1 to maintain their 100 percent win record after two group stage.

Al Ahly, on the other hand, were away to Al-Hilal where they succumbed to a 1-0 defeat in what was their opening Group B match.
There is no doubt that Sundowns have been one of the best on the African continent, and the best in South Africa given their dominance, and that has led to both Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs taking the back seat.

Pirates are ranked 31st in Africa, and that’s only South African team that’s closest to Sundowns while SuperSport United and Chiefs are ranked 48th and 49th respectively.
Interestingly, Sundowns and Al Ahly – ranked first and second in Africa – renew their rivalry in the CAF Champions League on Saturday, 25 February.
