CONFIRMED: Controversial referee Maguette Ndiaye is going to AFCON!

CAF has confirmed that controversial Senegal referee Maguette Ndiaye will officiate at next year’s AFCON finals in Cameroon!

Ndiaye came up fire from SAFA for his handling of Bafana Bafana’s final 2022 World Cup qualifier against Ghana last month.

Bafana Bafana needed to avoid defeat to progress to the next round of qualifying, but lost 1-0 to the Black Stars thanks to a controversial penalty awarded by Ndiaye to the home side.

SAFA promptly lodged an official complaint, but world governing body FIFA laughed off the objection in a one-paragraph response.

MAGUETTE NDIAYE IS THE NO 1 REFEREE IN SENEGAL

SAFA has indicated it will challenge the verdict, but in all honesty that would be a waste of time – and money.

On Friday CAF confirmed the list of referees, assistant referees and VAR Referees for next 9 January to 6 February’s tournament in Cameroon.

And Maguette Ndiaye’s name was prominent among the list.

Meanwhile, while Bafana Bafana won’t be playing, South Africa will have two representatives at the Africa Cup of Nations finals.

Referee Victor Gomes and assistant referee Zakhele Siwela have both made the list of officials selected for the continental showpiece.

The two officials are ranked among the best on the African continent due to their consistency and ability to handle matches under pressure.
