Stuart Baxter will be experiencing a sense of déjà vu after his side was drawn against Mamelodi Sundowns in the MTN 8.

Amakhosi take on ‘The Brazilians‘ on Sunday, 15 August at 15:00 (SAT Time).

When Baxter took charge of his first domestic spell at the club in 2012, he took on Sundowns in the quarter-finals of the MTN 8.

Amakhosi may have lost that tie 4-1 but it would prove to be a good omen for Chiefs. For the rest of the season, they became the ‘Trophy Kings’ of SA, winning the PSL and Nedbank Cup that same year!

Baxter completed the league and domestic ‘double’ and set the tone for the rest of the clubs in SA.

Amakhosi were the side to beat, filled with strength across the park. Amakhosi club legends Bernard Parker, Willard Katsande and Itumeleng Khune were in the form of their lives.

Chiefs fans will be hoping this sense of déjà vu is repeated, reliving the glory of that season. Baxter still has Khune and Parker who will want to taste PSL victory once more.

It has been 6 long years of no silverware for the men from Naturena. Baxter was the last man to lead them to it. in 2015, Chiefs were crowned the PSL Champions.

Now, they have a side brimming with confidence having reached their first-ever CAF Champions League final and beating Orlando Pirates in the Carling Black Label Cup.
