Kaizer Chiefs are the 2022 DStv Diski Shield champions following their 2-0 win over Stellenbosch FC in the final on Saturday.

Mfundo Vilakazi and Mduduzi Shabalala netted for Amakhosi on the day to ensure that the trophy goes to Naturena.

Stellenbosch welcomed back both Antonio van Wyk and Jayden Adams who participated in the Cosafa Cup with Bafana Bafana last week.

For Chiefs, there were no changes from the starting line-up that beat Mamelodi Sundowns in the semi-finals last week.

Amakhosi headed into the encounter in the KwaZulu-Natal province on the back of Kaizer Motaung being awarded the honorary doctorate by the University of Cape Town on Friday.

And all eyes were on them to see how well they would do given the atmosphere at the Chiefs Village in Naturena8.

The first 45 minutes was tightly contested as both Stellenbosch and Chiefs couldn’t find the back of the net.

However, Chiefs turned the tide in the second half as Vilakazi opened the scoring in the 59th minute of the game.

Stellenbosch tried to come back and get the equaliser but it was Chiefs who doubled their lead six minutes from time through Shabalala.

Ultimately, Chiefs won the match 2-0 with star striker Wandile Duba named man of the match even though he didn’t score on the afternoon.
