Kaizer Chiefs have gone shopping in Cape Town but will it be enough to turn their misfortunes around in the coming season?

Chiefs slumped to fifth in the PSL this term as they endured another trophy-less campaign.

The Glamour Boys have turned to Cape Town City midfielder Mduduzi Mdantsane. And the deal will cost them just R3.5 million.

But will it be enough to fix the misfiring Chiefs lineup? Time will tell.

Chiefs finally seal a deal

“His contract was due to expire at the end of this month but City activated a one-year option before Chiefs came knocking and the two clubs agreed on a fee,” reads a report in iDiski Times.

Mdantsane scored 21 goals and added seven assists in 109 games during his three seasons with Cape Town City.

He is the second big name coming to Chiefs following the arrival of defender Given Msimango.

Chiefs will also be able to count on defender Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, who joins them on a pre-contract from Supersport United.

It is now no longer a secret that Chiefs approached City in January, in the hopes of prizing away the services of Mdantsane. It is said that the initial approach was for a loan deal with an option to buy at the end of the season.

The move was reportedly so close that even Citizens coach Eric Tinkler came out to the media saying he had already admitted defeat.

Having been already resigned to losing one of his key players, Tinkler was then met with a pleasant surprise the move taking Mdantsane to Chiefs fell through for an unknown reason on January transfer deadline day. 

Whatever, happened between the two clubs may yet remain a mystery for a quite a long time to come, but what won’t is the fact that both City and Amakhosi seem to have reached an agreement for the transfer of the player at the end of the season.
