Inter Milan have issued a major update with regards to Danish international playmaker Christian Eriksen.

Eriksen is yet to feature for Inter this season, despite reports of making great progress on condition.

Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest

Eriksen shocked the football fraternity when he collapsed with no player near him in Denmarks opening Euro 2020 encounter against Finland. It was later confirmed that the 29-year-old had in fact suffered a cardiac arrest, which subsequently ruled him out for the rest of the tournament with that fixture on June 12 also being his last thus far.

Now has a defibrillator fitted to his heart

The player was then taken to hospital where he was later fitted with a defibrillator. Inter said Eriksen was in “excellent physical and mental shape” during a visit to the club’s training ground in August ahead of planned medical tests to see whether he could continue his playing career.

Then on Thursday Inter released a club statement with a major update on Eriksen’s immediate playing future.

Inter’s statement

“With reference to the registration rights of the player Eriksen, it should be noted that following a serious injury which occurred during the European Championship in June 2021, the player has been temporarily inhibited by the Italian medical authority from sporting activity in the current season.” Said Inter.

It is also important to note that Eriksen not being deemed fit enough to play in the Serie A this season does not necessarily mean that the former Tottenham star cannot play in other parts and leagues in the world.

Possibility for a move away from Serie A

Francesco Braconaro, a member of the Italian Football Federation’s technical scientific committee, said in August that Eriksen will not be allowed to play in Italy unless the ICD device is removed.

Inter therefore also reiterated the statement but also seemed to slightly open the door for Eriksen to pursue different leagues should he wish to return to the field at some point during the current season.
