Mothiba has only recently returned to action for the Strasbourg following a long-term injury lay off, and is set to leave on loan.

Mothiba had been out for almost two months

Before making his long-awaited return late last year, Mothiba had been out injured for close to two full years. Mothiba underwent knee surgery in August last year to repair a damaged tendon in his knee, and has been out of action since. The target man suffered the injury during the previous off season, with his coach at the time Thierry Laurey confirming that they only expected to see him back in action in 2021.

The Johannesburg-born player only returned to full training about a  couple of weeks ago, and seems to have made sufficient progress with regards to proving his match fitness, judging by how quickly management had decided to try and get him involved in first team action. This comes after Mothiba was brought into his first match day squad, with only a weeks worth of training.

He is now poised for loan move

Now after a few sparring appearances for Strasbourg, both he and the club seem to be in agreement that it is time for him to finish the season elsewhere on loan. It is thought that the 25-year-old is not short of options for temporary switch in the French Ligue 1. All of OG Nice, AS Saint-Etienne, FC Lorient and Troyes said to be fighting for Mothiba’s services.

Troyes said to be in the lead

Now according to top French publication L’Equipe, it is Troyes who are inching closer to signing Mothiba on a deal until the end of the season. It is also believed that Strasbourg will not be including an option to buy in the loan, but will in fact, look to extend the contract of the target man before he leaves, once again showing how much they value him.
