How Sundowns left Pitso’s favourite ‘SON’ in the wilderness

The 26-year-old talented midfielder was promoted from Mamelodi Sundowns’ academy by Pitso Mosimane in 2018.

Forgotten Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Keletso Makgalwa could be on his way out of the club before the start of the season.

The talented midfielder had a promising start to his career over five years under the guidance of Pitso Mosimane. From DStv Diski Challenge, Makgalwa flourished and was promoted to Downs’s first team in 2018.

Under Mosimane, the Mokopane-born player made an impact off the bench, helping Masandawana win the 2019/20 PSL season in the process. The 26-year-old was also named the Nedbank Cup Most Promising Player.

Makgalwa a forgotten man at Sundowns

In 2020, it looked like Makgalwa was becoming a key figure in the talented Brazilian squad but something unexpected happen; Mosimane, who had guided Sundowns to a treble that season, resigned as head coach. This left Makgalwa out in the cold as he only managed to play 10 games in the 2020/21 season.

In the next two seasons, the midfielder was loaned out to Maritzburg United, Swallows FC, TS Galaxy and All-Stars.

In an interview he did this year, the Sundowns man admitted he missed his former coach Pitso Mosimane.

“I spoke to him (Mosimane) last year. He always tells me to work hard and use the opportunities I get,” Makgalwa said on Isolezwe.

“I will never forget that. He is a very good coach. I miss him, I miss him a lot. I am ready to go back to Sundowns and fight for my place,” he said.

Makgalwa could leave Sundowns for the University Of Pretoria but only on loan according to reports.
