Ntseki was relieved of his Bafana Bafana duties after a 2-0 defeat to Sudan saw the team fail to qualify for the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) last month.

Igesund believes Ntseki remains a promising up-and-coming coach, but maintains that he simply wasn’t ready for international management.

“Look, I think Ntseki is a very good guy, he’s a good up-and-coming coach, but I think he shouldn’t have been given the Bafana job in the first place, he was doing well with the under-23s, under-20s and the junior teams you know,” Gordon Igesund told Kickoff.

“I think this was a very big jump for him. And of course if you are offered the job you going to take it because it’s a great honour to be a national team coach. I also think he was thrown into the deep end.

“So whether they were right or whether they were wrong it’s not for me to say. It’s not for me to judge and decide. I just think Ntseki was thrown into the deep end, I don’t know if he had the people around him that he wanted to have around him.”
