Al Ahly‘s head of transfers Amir Tawfik has revealed the main reason the club failed to secure the services of Gaston Sirino from Mamelodi Sundowns.

Sirino was heavily linked with a possible move to the Egyptian giants in December, and at the time, the proposed deal looked likely.

However, negotiations were discontinued, and according to Tawfik, both Al Ahly and Sundowns failed to agree on a transfer fee for Sirino.

Tawfik revealed in an interview with Al Ahly TV that Sundowns’ asking price was too high, adding that Al Ahly have a cap when it comes to the buying of players.

“Negotiations with Sirino fell through after failing to agree on fees. Sundowns demanded a large sum of money, and there is a cap when it comes to transfer contracts at Al Ahly,” Tawfik told Al Ahly TV as per Kingfut.

At some point, media reports suggested that Sundowns were not prepared to release Sirino to Al Ahly for no less than R90 million.

This is how much Sundowns value Sirino, who has been one of their best players since arriving at the club in 2017.

Al Ahly’s pursuit of Sirino was led by Pitso Mosimane after the pair enjoyed a healthy working relationship for over two years before the Kagiso-born mentor moved to Cairo.

However, Sirino had just signed a new five-year deal with Sundowns, which made it very difficult for Al Ahly to persuade the Tshwane giants otherwise.
