Boitumelo Pheko found a way to get past the Mamelodi Sundowns defence with a thunder striker that you simply have to watch.

Few players have troubled the Sundowns’ defence this season but that changed on Thursday, 2 March.

In the Nedbank Cup final rematch between Marumo Gallants and Mamelodi Sundowns, it took something special to get Sundowns’ rattled.

And it was a thunderbolt of note.

Mamelodi Sundowns travelled to the Free State Stadium to face Marumo Gallants in the Nedbank Cup with only one thing on their minds. Victory.

Such has been the form of the defending champions – both in the league and this competition – that they only have something to lose. And while they dominated the match and ultimately won 3-1 to progress, it was a Pheko thunderbolt that stole the show.

They truly are turning into a dynasty and it’s hard to see who could beat them at this point.

Own worst enemies

It was revealed before the game that Sipho Mbule was suspended for allegedly turning up to training drunk. And what’s worse than one player offending like that? Two!

As all reports indicate that veteran midfielder Andile Jali did the same thing.

Mbule has been suspended but it appears that his time away from the Sundowns team is over. The question marks around Jali remain as he is heavily linked to become another ageing star leaving Sundowns for Chiefs.
