Kaizer Chiefs will be looking to players such as Njabulo Blom to help inspire them to a much-needed win over TS Galaxy on Wednesday.

It’s been an up-and-down start to the season for Chiefs, but one of the standout players in recent times has been none other than Njabulo Blom.

On Wednesday, Chiefs will head into an all-important DStv Premiership match against TS Galaxy, which will give Amakhosi an immediate opportunity to bounce back from their disappointing 2-1 defeat to Chippa United last weekend.

The Glamour Boys will undoubtedly be looking for better execution when it comes to their attack, and much responsibility will fall on Blom at the base of the Chiefs midfield, where his main remit will be to break up play and protect his defence, as well as start attacks from deep lying positions.

The 22-year-old is in prime shape for the match and is eager to make amends for last weekend.

“I’m fully fit for the game and have been training hard, so I’m happy and healthy, ready to play,” he says. “To be quite honest, we missed our chances (against Chippa) and we gave them easy goals. As a team, we are not happy we lost the game. We had it in our hands. We were leading in the first half and we gave the game away, so we are looking forward to this game to put things right,” the midfielder added.

TS Galaxy have not had a great start to the season and currently lie in 11th place in the league, a solitary point above the relegation positions and six points behind fourth-placed Chiefs, albeit with a game in hand

Meanwhile, coach Arthur Zwane has recently suggested he hopes Blom will be able to secure a new contract extension.

Although there have been some apparent issues between the player’s representatives and the club management, which has led to talk that he could end up leaving Naturena, Zwane has said there are hopes that matters could be resolved.

“As a coach I will always want to see Njabulo [Blom] playing football and succeeding in playing football because he’s very talented,” Zwane said, as quoted by FARPost.

“Unfortunately, these things do happen with people who represent them so I will leave the club to deal with it. I’m not that much worried; obviously, we want to see him on the field. He’s got the qualities; we know Njabulo since he was 15 years old, actually 14 years old when he came to Kaizer Chiefs. He’s doing well. Obviously as much as we looking for perfection, there will always be mistakes, and we can work on those mistakes.”

Chiefs are set to come up against a familiar face

Kaizer Chiefs legend Bernard Parker is hoping for a positive reception when he returns to FNB Stadium on Wednesday.

The 36-year-old Parker is one of the greatest players to have ever laced up his boots for Kaizer Chiefs, having made over 300 appearances and winning several titles along the way, while he is said to have “set himself up to stay involved in the game” by going into coaching when he retires one day.

Earlier this year Chiefs confirmed they would not renew Parker’s contract when it expired at the end of June 2022, and TS Galaxy instead came forward and offered him a contract which will run for the next two years until June 2024.

In what will be the two sides’ first meeting of the season, Parker is set to come up against his former team in an emotional ‘homecoming’ of sorts.

“I hope that I will receive a warm reception. I hope to get a positive reception because of what I have done there,” said Parker, as quoted by FARPost.

“I have done a lot there in the past 11 years. So I am anticipating a welcome feeling. The feeling hasn’t sunk in yet. I am sure it will sink in when I step foot at the FNB Stadium. It’s a first time feeling so I don’t know how to describe it. I don’t know how I will be on the day but I am looking forward to it.

“I wouldn’t say anxious or nervous. It is a good feeling that I am feeling already. To play against my ex-team would be more of a feeling that triggers emotions.”
