Kekana left Mamelodi Sundowns last year after a decade with the powerhouse club, and the 36-year-old midfielder was considering finding a new team. However, it has now been confirmed that he will instead be hanging up his boots to focus on his job as an analyst on SABC.

Despite having signed a four-year contract extension a year before his departure, Kekana ultimately left Chloorkop as the club’s most decorated captain, having made more than 350 appearances across all competitions for the Brazilians.

Kekana started his professional career with Black Leopards, before making a move to join SuperSport United. He then had a brief spell at Bloemfontein Celtic before making the big move to Chloorkop

He has now shared a special message after announcing his retirement:

KEKANA PLAYED OVER 350 MATCHES FOR SUNDOWNS

Reigning DStv Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns announced in early November that they had come to an amicable agreement with Kekana.

He had been linked with a host of different clubs since then, but a move to any new club failed to materialise.

“If an opportunity comes, I would have to decide if it suits my drive. But if it does not come, I will close the chapter because I’ve played for the longest time and it is time to face reality and understand that my services are no longer needed,” said Kekana recently, as quoted by Phakaaathi.
