Pitso Mosimane led Al Ahly to the bronze medal at the FIFA Club World Cup after thrashing Al Hilal 4-0 this past weekend. In doing so, the popular South Africam coach became the first African manager to win back-to-back bronze medals at the CWC.

With Al-Hilal reduced to 10 men early on after Matheus Pereira was shown a straight red card for a dangerous challenge, Al Ahly cruised to a memorable victory to finish the Club World Cup on a high.

There was also more trouble for Al-Hilal just before half-time when Mohammed Kanno was also red-carded for a dangerous challenge, and from that point on there was only ever going to be one winner.

The result sees Mosimane become the most successful African manager in FIFA Club World Cup history, while Al Ahly are officially the first team in history to win three Club World Cup bronze medals.

Didier Drogba, who was famous for his illustrious career with the Ivory Coast and in England with Chelsea, has now added his voice to the chorus of praise for Mosimane.

“The first time we have an African team in this competition like Al Ahly and I think they deserve the third place, they had a good game,” he told FilGoal.

“And good for the manager as well, because he’s been winning trophies as well.

“He’s been winning trophy after trophy and to do that in a different country is not always easy.

“He did it and he proved that he’s one of the best coaches on the continent.”
