Former Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Eric September is reportedly in a sad state of affairs, post his playing career.

It is believed that September has gone from the highs of playing for Bafana Bafana and Chiefs to the lows of picking dustbins on the streets.

September having a tough time

Reports claim that September is finding it hard to make ends meet since ending a career that saw him also turn out for Mamelodi Sundowns and Jomo Cosmos, besides Chiefs. The report claims that he has resorted to recycling as his only source of incoming, to date. Despite having an illustrious career, September’s life came crashing down when he was sentenced to 13-years in prison for raping and murdering his wife.

His sentence began in 1997 before he was eventually released from prison in 2010. Upon his release, it is thought that September has been having a very tough time of things, where he is currently residing in Mafikeng. A source speaking to The Citizen has then elaborated to the publication, just how dire his situation has been since he came out, as well as what he does in order to survive nowadays. 

Source describes his situations

“It’s sad to see someone like him (September) roaming around the street collecting garbage, it’s really sad because this is someone we grew up looking up to and he had a very good football career. What happened to him by going to prison was very unfortunate. I think that was the beginning of his downfall because before he was arrested  he was living in a big house and had everything that he wanted.” Said the source on the former Chiefs man.

The source continued with a plea on September’s behalf.

“I just wish someone could offer him some help because he is a really good guy and he knows what he did in the past was wrong and he paid for his mistakes. Everyone deserves a second chance and I believe he deserves it,” concluded the source.

September earned just two caps for Bafana Bafana.
