Foster off the mark, hungry for more

Burnley and Bafana Bafana striker Lyle Foster scored the first goal of what will hopefully be many in English football at the weekend in a substitute cameo appearance against Wigan. The 22-year-old has settled in seamlessly with the Clarets, starting twice in the FA Cup and making six substitute appearances for them in the EFL Championship. We think he’s got the ingredients to become a top-level player in England.

Lyle Foster is undoubtedly a gifted footballer with innate goal-scoring instincts, but natural talent can only get you so far in the cutthroat world of elite football. What’s most striking about Foster is his calmness and maturity during post-match interviews. There is also a clear presence of humility in the way he speaks and conducts himself. Foster is delighted and privileged to be representing a big English club, but he’s also keen to make his mark. All of these traits combined should see him enjoy a stellar career.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR LYLE FOSTER AND BURNLEY?

Barring a spectacular collapse by his side, we will be seeing The South African in England’s Premier League next season. There are just 10 games to go in the EFL Championship regular season and table-topping Burnley lead third-placed Middlesbrough by 17 points. The top two gain automatic promotion. The Clarets travel to Hull on Wednesday night aiming for three more points in their promotion push, then it’s a tasty FA Cup quarterfinal away to Manchester City next Saturday. Foster has surely given his manager a selection headache ahead of these games. Will he start?
