Emara, now 46, played 37 matches for Al Ahly and 48 in all competitions for Egypt.

Al Ahly lost 2-0 against European champions Bayern Munich in the Club World Cup semi-finals after goals in each half from Poland’s Robert Lewandowski.

Despite the loss, Al Ahly were generally praised after managing to stop the the Bundesliga giant’s dangerous wingers.

However, according to the KingFut website, Emara believed the match was lost up-front.

“The result could have been positive for Al Ahly against Bayern Munich, especially since the German team was exhausted from the trip to Qatar,” Emara said.

“They weren’t in their best condition and won because Al Ahly was poor.

“We had a golden opportunity against Bayern Munich to win. I did not see the real Bayern Munich that we always see and their stars did not give everything they had in front of Al Ahly.

“I am not with those who say that the result is satisfactory.

“Al Ahly was poor offensively. We could have won the match if we had a good attack, but we did not play with a striker.

“I was astonished by the fact that Mohamed Sherif was sitting on the bench. Any clear striker would have made the difference.

“Al Ahly weren’t confident enough and we kept the ball in some periods, but without effectiveness.

“Pitso Mosimane is poor in managing matches, so far he hasn’t left an imprint on me.

“Regardless of the tournaments that were won, so far, his imprint is not strong. I think Al Ahly fans agree with me on this matter,” he concluded.

Al Ahly will now face Copa Libertadores champions Palmeiras in the third-place encounter on Thursday, February 11.

Kick-off is at 17:00 SA time.

Mosimane will be without a star duo after the pair were suspended by FIFA for breaching Covid-19 protocols after the Bayern Munich match.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich will face CONCACAF champions Tigres UANL in the Club World Cup final at 20:00 on the same day.
