Manchester United returned to English Premier League action with a 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford last night.

Manchester United returned to English Premier League action with a 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford last night.

Amongst the goal scorers for Manchester United were two forwards in Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial. Two players under the tutelage if Benni McCarthy.

McCarthy the forwards coach at Manchester United

McCarthy was, of course appointed as Manchester United’s forwards coach at the start of the season by new manager Erik ten Hag. The former Bafana Bafana international was tasked with getting the club’s forwards firing in a season where signs were already looking bad in the first few weeks of the current season.

The first game he oversaw was one of Manchester United’s most polished performances of the season thus far. The Red Devils beat Arsenal 3-1 at Old Trafford becoming the first and still the only team to beat the current log leaders this season. On the scoresheet that were two forwards, a debut goal for Brazilian Antony and a brace for home grown talent Rashford. Before McCarthy’s arrival, Rashford was a picture of concern for United fans, and that game seemed to spark a resurgence in him. He now has six goals in the league with South Africa’s all time leading goal scorer already having received credit for his revival.

He again got his flowers

As Rashford and fellow forward Martial scored a quick double against Forest, the camera’s quickly turned to McCarthy with the match commentators both reserving big praise for the impact the 2004 Champions League winner with FC Porto has made with the duo. Of course, under him United have also seen the rise of young Argentinian forward Alejandro Ganarcho

Having seemingly had the desired effect on that trio, McCarthy would be hoping to have a similar impact on the trio of Jadon Sancho, Anthony Elanga as well Antony who after an early purple patch, has seen both the goals and performances dry up of late.
