Van Dijk says consistency will be key if Liverpool are to win title

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk says the club is in a transition phase but emphasised about keeping pressure on EPL log leaders.

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk says the team should strive for consistency if they are to compete for the Premier League title.

The Reds are a point behind log leaders Manchester City and Arsenal.

Liverpool returned to winning ways following a 2-0 win over Everton in the Merseyside derby on Saturday.

That result moved Jürgen Klopp’s side up to 20 points in the Premier League

Van Dijk said the club was adjusting after new players were signed before the start of the season.

“Obviously there has been a transition of course, but also in the way we play.

“We have different players with different qualities and try to adapt a little bit in our football – and I think it’s working quite well,”van Dijk added.

“What’s also helping is we have not many injuries, so everyone is pushing each other. And we have that coming from the bench. Obviously a couple of injuries now, but before that [not]; that was also key.”

Having finished 5th last season, Liverpool missed out on the Uefa Champions Leagu but Van Dijk is not bothered.

He said the club are taking it game by game and enjoying the moment of playing for Liverpool.

“Try to stay fit and enjoy the moment as well. We play for one of the biggest clubs in the world – we are very privileged – so let’s show that, let’s be proud and enjoy the time together,” Van Dijk said.
