According to news out of the KwaZulu-Natal side’s camp, Sithebe is no longer part of the club’s plans, with indications that a deal with Amakhosi is close to being concluded,.

“Sithebe won’t be playing for the club anymore. He is no longer part (of the team) and it is nothing personal, but business,” Zungu told the media on Thursday.

Meanwhile, AmaZulu coach Benni McCarthy insisted that as a coach, he focuses on what happens on the pitch and not in the boardroom.

“For me as a coach, I try not to involve myself in that. Emotionally, I’m already involved in players when they come to training. That’s all I can control,” McCarthy told the media.

“I can’t talk about the deal because I don’t think it is fair for me to find out what is happening with players and their earnings, because coaches are sometimes evil. You know how much a player earns and one bad game, then you hold it against him.”

The Bafana Bafana legend went on to insist that no player will receive special treatment.

“I rather not get involved in that, the club deals with that. When it comes to training and on the pitch, that’s where I get in. If the player gives me 100%, I have to play him. As far as I know he still part of the team, until he is no longer our player and we will then end our relationship with him. For now, he is my player, an AmaZulu player and is expected to be trained.

“No one is bigger than the team and there’s no special treatment here. If he gives me any problems, then he will have to deal with me and I will bow down when one achieves better than me. That goes for all the players.”

Benni McCarthy’s AmaZulu have a tough upcoming schedule

Having finished last season as runners-up in the DStv Premiership, the current campaign has been more of a struggle for AmaZulu.

Although they are in fifth place in the log with 27 points after 20 matches, they have played as many as three more games than a number of teams below them in the standings.

Benni McCarthy’s men will next be in action in a blockbuster Nedbank Cup Round of 32 match away against Orlando Pirates on Sunday, 6 February at 15:00.

Thereafter, AmaZulu will travel to Sudan for their first CAF Champions League group stage match against Raja Casablanca on Friday, 11 February.

Their next league assignment will be at home against TS Galaxy on Wednesday, 16 February at 17:00.
