The English Premier League continues with a full weekend of action, as EPL leaders Liverpool resume their effort to knock reigning champions Manchester City off their title perch.

Jurgen Klopp’s men must wait until a tasty home clash against surprise strugglers Tottenham on Sunday to make their mark.

The Reds return to the comforts of Anfield following a spicy North West Derby away to Manchester United, where a 1-1 draw saw their perfect league record bite the dust amid a storm of VAR controversy.

Spurs head to Merseyside having scrambled a draw of their own last weekend, hitting back late at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to snatch a scarcely paletable draw with Watford.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side start the weekend in seventh, heading a list of four clubs with 12 points to show from nine games so far this season.

Liverpool remain a handy six points clear of City at the Premier League summit.

The reigning champions can hit back in the title race good and early, as they host promoted Aston Villa at the Etihad Stadium.

They made it three wins in their last four with a comfortable 2-0 victory at Crystal Palace last Saturday.

The Villans are settling into life back into the top tier, winning their last two and losing just one of their last five to sit 12th in the standings.

A point and two places behind them are Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s United, who take their sorry winless run to Norwich on Sunday.

The Red Devils go up against a side also without a victory in four EPL games at Carrow Road, with the Canaries mired in the relegation zone.

A London derby is also to be had on Sunday as Arsenal tackle Crystal Palace at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners missed the chance to go third in the Premier League table on Monday night, as they fell to a 1-0 defeat at Sheffield United.

Palace are enjoying a fine start to the season under wily old fox Roy Hodgson despite last weekend’s loss to the champions, coming into the weekend sixth in the table.

Frank Lampard’s Chelsea take their quietly impressive form to Burnley for Saturday’s late kick off.

The Blues saw off Newcastle at Stamford Bridge last weekend to make it three wins on the spin, leaving them fourth in the EPL standings.

Sean Dyche was left among the ranks of coaches bemoaning the implementation of VAR after his Clarets were edged out 2-1 by high-flying Leicester last Saturday.

The Foxes kick off the Premier League weekend on Friday night when they make the trip to Southampton.

Brendan Rodgers’ men would sneak into second place with a win, while the Saints are 17th having failed to grab three points in any of their last four matches.

West Ham’s impressive start has hit the buffers in recent weeks, as they go into their clash with Sheffield United after back-to-back defeats.

The Blades nudged above the Hammers on goal difference with their win over the Gunners on Monday, now defending a top half position as they go to the London Stadium on Saturday.

Everton and Brighton are lurking above the early relegation zone, although under-fire Marco Silva takes his Toffees to the Amex Stadium off the back of a welcome home win over West Ham.

Graham Potter’s side slipped to a 2-1 loss at Aston Villa last time out.

Watford and Bournemouth complete the Saturday action, with the Hornets still mired in the drop zone and without a win, despite last weekend’s spirited display at Tottenham.

The Cherries were held to a goalless draw at home by Norwich, making it three without a win for Eddie Howe’s men.

Newcastle and Wolves meet at St James’ Park on Sunday, with the improving visitors having picked up eight points out of the last 12 on offer in the EPL.
