Manchester United 0-2 Manchester City

Manchester City cruised to derby victory in their grudge match against rivals United at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

Pep Guardiola’s men kept their cool and their patience on a high-pressure evening to go back above Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table.

The hosts grew into the first half and came close when Marcus Rashford rattled a shot just over the crossbar.

David de Gea then just managed to gather Raheem Sterling’s effort with Sergio Aguero lurking at the other end.

And it was City who made their class tell in the 54th minute when Ilkay Gundogan found Bernardo Silva, who slotted his finish inside the near post to put the visitors ahead.

The reigning champions had the wind in their sails and almost made it two within moments as Aguero whistled a strike past the post.

It proved a portent of things to come as Sterling broke free before picking out Leroy Sane, who found a way through the limp-legged defence of De Gea to make it two on 66 minutes.

City are now a point above Jurgen Klopp’s pretenders with three EPL games to go, having been almost completely untroubled by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side in the closing stages.

Wolves 3-1 Arsenal

Arsenal suffered another blow in their bid to finish in the top four of the Premier League, as they were beaten by Wolves at Molineux on Wednesday.

Ruben Neves set the tone when he curled in a beauty of a free kick beyond Bernd Leno in the visitors’ goal in the 28th minute.

The hosts had a second nine minutes later when Matt Doherty headed in from close range.

Diogo Jota danced his way through the Gunners defence before applying a tidy low finish for number three.

Sokratis headed in from Granit Xhaka’s corner to reduce the arrears with ten minutes to play, but that was as good as it got for Unai Emery’s men.

The Gunners stay fifth in the Premier League with time running out to scrounge a Champions League place for next season.

Tottenham 1-0 Brighton

Christian Eriksen was the hero as Tottenham left it late to keep up their push for third place in the Premier League on Tuesday night.

Spurs toiled against a visiting side that had absolutely no attacking ambition whatsoever.

Nine off-target efforts littered the first half before Lewis Dunk was forced to clear Lucas Moura’s effort off the line.

Danny Rose tested Seagulls keeper Mat Ryan with a fizzing effort after the break.

And it was is fellow defender Toby Alderweireld who came closest, finding the inside of the post before the ball ran across goal and away to safety.

But Eriksen finally found a way through in the 88th minute when he squeezed his shot under the dive of Ryan to seal all three points.

It leaves Tottenham looking good for a top four finish and Brighton with work still to do to avoid the drop back to the Championship.

Watford 1-1 Southampton

Shane Long made Premier League history with the fastest goal in the competition for Southampton at Watford.

The goal-shy striker popped up to dink in a neat finish in less than eight seconds to give the Saints the lead at Vicarage Road.

Nathan Redmond nearly made it two, only for his shot to be palmed on to the post by Ben Foster.

The Hornets pushed for an equalizer and found it in the 90th minute via Andre Gray, leaving them steady away in mid-table with Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men safe enough from relegation.
