McCarthy has rightfully been credited for the newfound fluency in the Manchester United attack and for his one-on-one work with Marcus Rashford, which has led to the forward’s remarkable revival in front of goal.

Manchester United staff, players and fans have continuously sung the former Bafana Bafana striker Benni McCarthy‘s praises in recent weeks.

But in a rather mortifying and awkward moment after a Europa League match at Old Trafford, Sky Sports News content creator, universally known as Flex, approaches McCarthy shouting “Quinton, Quinton, well done man”.

Benni McCarthy — who looks puzzled — just casually continues to stroll past Flex without correcting him on his case of mistaken identity.

Flex then turned to the camera and says “He’s the man why Rashy’s sick”, referring to how McCarthy has contributed to Rashford’s excellent form.

The video has since gone viral on social various social media platforms, with many Manchester United fans slamming Flex for his confusing the two South Africans, while others said it was straight up disrespectful to both McCarthy and Fortune that he couldn’t differentiate between the two.

While Benni McCarthy had recently joined the club’s senior coaching ranks, Quinton Fortune was a Manchester United for seven seasons between 1999 and 2006.

FLEX FRONTS BENNI TO ASK FOR FORGIVENESS

Following the widespread backlash he received, Flex at least had the decency to admits his mistake and to apologise to Benni McCarthy face to face.

“Yes Benni, what do you say man. Bro, I’ve got to apologise for last time,” Flex starts off the conversation.

Benni laughs and cheekily responds with “Not Quinton today, eh?”.

The exchange between the two continued with Flex adding “Bro, I’m so sorry. That’s why you looked at me funny”.

The pair continues to go back and forth before a laughing Benni McCarthy stalks off, while Flex concludes his apology video saying “He knows it was a mistake, an honest mistake”.
