Liverpool and Manchester City have the same problem up front according to the Reds coach Jurgen Klopp.

Klopp says that the clubs have similar issues in attack with the signings of Erling Haaland and Darwin Nunez.

Liverpool and Manchester City plagued by the same striker problem

Haaland and Nunez are a different breed of striker and have their own unique approach in attack which Klopp says the teams need to settle into.

“(City) have the same problem we have – they are not used to Erling’s natural runs, just as we are not used to Darwin’s natural runs yet,” Klopp said.

“When Darwin offers a run we give him the ball all the time, which is not helpful because often a guy who stretches the opponent is there to create space between the lines.

“I am pretty sure they will need time for Erling but that doesn’t mean he cannot score already like he did against Bayern.”

MSN

Klopp says Liverpool want to use their near-misses last term as motivation to do better this time around.

“Both teams (Liverpool and City) play an incredibly high level and one thing makes the difference, like one goal in the Champions League final for instance,” Klopp mused.

“That is part of the deal. That can happen at the end of the season with the points tally. It didn’t turn me crazy and it didn’t turn the players crazy either. Because it is part of the deal. We can use it to get even more determined.”

An early start

Liverpool face Manchester City in the Community Shield on Saturday, with the match taking place at the King Power Stadium with Wembley set to stage the Women’s Euros final.

Both coaches have been critical of the schedule and feel they are being made to pay a high price for success.
