Mason Greenwood will not feature for Man United again this season regardless of which course of action the club pursues.

It’s understood that United are mulling over three possible options regarding Greenwood and aren’t in a rush to make their decision. That’s according to The Daily Star.

Man United must choose one of three options over Mason Greenwood

The England striker was arrested almost 13 months ago and subsequently charged with attempted rape, assault and coercive behaviour. However, the Crown Prosecution Service discontinued the charges after certain witnesses withdrew their involvement in the case. United bosses are now conducting an internal club investigation into the circumstances surrounding the allegations made against the 21-year-old striker.

United suspended Greenwood shortly after his arrest, but continued to pay him his full salary throughout the legal process. He has remained on United’s first team squad list on the club’s official website and has a contract until 2025 worth close to £100,000-a-week.

Man United have three Greenwood options

One option is to allow Greenwood to return to training at Carrington for the remainder of the current season. Understandably, the playing squad are heavily divided on that option. The second option is to offer Greenwood a payout so that he can leave the club well short of the end of his contract in 2025. The third option is to find a buyer so that his wages can be taken off the books and a line can be drawn under the matter. Clubs in China have been sounded out, according to reports.

Meanwhile, back to matters on the pitch, United are preparing for a titanic Europa League playoff clash with Barcelona on Thursday night. The winner over two legs will enter the final 16 of that competition, and the losers will be eliminated.
