Lyle Foster and Burnley recently confirmed their return to the Premier League just 320 days after they were relegated last season.
It’s been a tremendous effort from them under new boss Vincent Kompany, who has shown his managerial mettle in a big way. He’s still only 36 years old.
Benni McCarthy was formerly the most expensive South African footballer ever when Celta Vigo paid Ajax €6m (R113 million) for his services. After Benni, Joburg-born playmaker Steven Pienaar was the second-most expensive when in 2011 he moved from Everton to Tottenham and fetched a fee of €3.6m (R67.6 million). The guaranteed fee that Burnley will pay to Westerlo for Kyle Foster’s services has shattered the record held by Benni since 1999. The Clarets paid €7m upfront, with a further €4m of add-ons triggered because of their promotion to the Premier League. Foster’s move is going to amount to something approaching a staggering R222 million.

South Africa’s priciest ever player will get to have a crack at the Premier League, and we’re very much here for it. Foster has been used sparingly so far by Kompany, but we could see more of the Bafana Bafana striker now with the pressure off in the remaining games against Bristol City and Cardiff.
