Fantasy Premier League intel: Matchweek 23

West Ham vs Chelsea

David Moyes won’t need reminding that he’s lost 26 of 45 career meetings with Chelsea, winning only seven times. Maybe he’ll fancy his chances against a Chelsea side with just one win in seven matches across all competitions, and 0-0 draws in each of their last two. Clean sheets here perhaps?

Arsenal vs Brentford

Since the turn of the year, Thomas Frank’s Brentford have collected 10 points from a possible 12 in the EPL and haven’t lost a league game since October 2022. League leaders Arsenal have a serious job on their hands here if they want to pick up all three points. Bournemouth haven’t conceded in any of their last three EPL matches, so I’ve got a sneaky feeling that the Gunners might break through here from a surprise source. Back Brazilian centre-back Gabriel to be that man. He scored the winner at Chelsea earlier this season.

Leicester vs Tottenham

James Maddison and Harry Kane are the obvious picks here. Maddison scored in his last game for Leicester, as well as in his last two against Spurs. Spurs talisman Harry Kane became just the third player in EPL history to rattle in 200 goals in the competition with his match-winner against Man City last Sunday. He’s scored 18 of those against none other than the Foxes. The last six EPL meetings between these sides have featured 23 goals, so get both of these geezers in your Fantasy Premier League team!

Bournemouth vs Newcastle

The Cherries are in terrible form, winless in six EPL matches and scoring just once in that sequence. Newcastle have become the league’s draw specialists, with 10 all season and four in their last five games. Still, get Newcastle keeper Nick Pope into your side because he loves a clean sheet and Bournemouth suck at scoring goals.

Man City vs Aston Villa

You’ve probably yanked Erling Halaand out of your fantasy team because he’s on a little drought. Get him back in. The law of averages says that he’ll score this weekend because City are a wounded animal and Aston Villa tend to ship a few when they face the champions. Just remember this corresponding fixture which ended 3-2 last season.

Liverpool vs Everton

Liverpool just aren’t themselves right now. The Reds have lost three of their last four EPL matches, drawing the other 0-0 with Chelsea. In that sample, they’ve scored just once. Defensive issues are there too; they shipped three goals in three successive away league games for the first time since November and December 1993. Toffees striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin will be licking his lips, as will in-form creative midfielder Alex Iwobi.
