Benni McCarthy lauded by EPL legend for work with Marcus Rashford

Marcus Rashford’s resurgence and the resulting improvement in Manchester United’s fortunes have been put down to Benni McCarthy.

Marcus Rashford’s resurgence and the resulting improvement in Manchester United’s fortunes have been put down to Benni McCarthy’s work with the striker.

The South African coach has been a difference-maker at Old Trafford since his arrival earlier this season.

Meanwhile, Ian Wright has added his voice to those praising Benni McCarthy.

“I think the acquisition of Benni McCarthy, a striker coach, has helped him,” Wright said as quoted by Give Me Sport.

“When you look at the movement for that goal… it was brilliant. And that says to me that someone like Benni McCarthy’s working very closely with him. He has improved no end.”

Benni McCarthy the difference-maker

Rashford himself has come ot to say how much Benni McCarthy has helped him.

“He’s definitely helped me a lot,” Rashford said of his relationship with the former Amazulu and Cape Town City coach. 

“To have them attack-minded coaches is good for us in the squad, he’s always there speaking to us about these things.”

Mindset win

McCarthy had outlined his intention to change the mindset of the players at Manchester United.

It would be a tough ask to argue that he hasn’t done that.

“[I want to] help these young players, push them, change their mindset and really try to make the difference to United this season,” McCarthy told MUTV a few days after his arrival in Manchester.

“Hopefully this season we’re going to see a completely revived United, a hungry bunch of players and a team that’s going to be able to challenge to get into the Champions League and change the dynamics of the Man Citys and Liverpools.”
