Engen Knockout Challenge: Chiefs beat Sundowns to lift trophy

Kaizer Chiefs are the 2022 Gauteng Engen Knockout Challenge following their 2-1 penalty shootout win over Mamelodi Sundowns on Sunday.

Kaizer Chiefs are the 2022 Gauteng Engen Knockout Challenge following their 2-1 penalty shootout win over Mamelodi Sundowns on Sunday.

The two sides met in the final after advancing to the final from the semi-finals that were played at Marks Park earlier on the day.

And this was always going to be an exciting encounter given the rivalry between Chiefs and Sundowns at a professional level.

Chiefs brought every member of their first team, including the technical team and management to show support for the U19 side which is coached by Donald ‘Ace’ Khuse.

The Glamour Boys were the first to score through Thulani Mabaso in the first half but Sundowns retaliated with a goal of their own in the second half.

The game ended in a 1-1 draw after 50 minutes of football played, and the winner had to be decided on penalties where Chiefs edged out Sundowns.
