South African football icon and former Bafana Bafana midfielder Doctor Khumalo has made a shocking revelation about the South African Football Association (SAFA).

Speaking to SABC Sport, Khumalo said Molefi Ntseki wanted rope him in as a Bafana Bafana scout for the two AFCON qualifiers against Ghana and Sudan.

However, he was denied that opportunity by the association’s technical committee who told Ntseki that there were people who could do that job within SAFA.

And that call by the technical committee left Ntseki with very little to do as he went back to Khumalo to tell him that his hands were tied.

According to Khumalo, Ntseki wasn’t given enough support to succeed as head coach of Bafana Bafana and what hurts the former Kaizer Chiefs star the most is the fact that people that have done nothing for the country’s football had to make the decision.

“He called me and asked if I would be able to scout for Ghana and Sudan,” said Khumalo.

“But who decided? The technical committee. They refused and said, ‘no we have somebody who can do that’.

“He was trying to rope in people that can help him out,” he argued.

“But he came back to me and said, ‘my hands are tied’. That’s what he said. So, what must he do?”

“So, I am not protecting Molefi but I am just stating what transpired and I am sitting here as a former Bafana and somebody that has a star (AFCON medal)” he continued.

“And it hurts me if somebody that is trying to rope in people that could have helped him and somebody that has never done anything [for this country] stops him. It doesn’t work like that,” added Khumalo.

Bafana Bafana could only pick up a point in those two matches – a draw against Ghana and a loss away to Sudan.

As a result, they failed to qualify for the delayed AFCON tournament in Cameroon.

Ntseki has since lost his job as head coach of Bafana Bafana.
