Cristiano Ronaldo is likely to be in hot water when he returns to Manchester United after the FIFA World Cup, and could face disciplinary action following his criticism of the club.

The 37-year-old forward, who is in his second spell with the English giants, told British broadcaster Piers Morgan that he felt “betrayed” by the club.

Three clips have been shared on the YouTube channel ‘Piers Morgan Uncensored‘, with Ronaldo seemingly upset with how he has been treated at the club.

Sky Sports spoke to sports lawyer Steven Taylor-Heath who said Manchester United would likely peruse Ronaldo’s contract to see if the comments he has made about the club and the Glazer family bring the club into disrepute.

The Portuguese striker was scathing of the team’s new manager Erik Ten Hag, and said “I don’t have respect for him (Ten Hag) because he doesn’t show respect for me. If you don’t have respect for me, I’m never gonna have respect for you.”

As for the team’s owners, the Glazer family, Ronaldo said his bosses were more concerned about making money from the club. “The Glazers don’t care about the club, in professional sport as you knows Manchester United is a marketable club and they get money from the marketing. But as for the sports (side) they don’t really care in my opinion,” Ronaldo says.

Manchester United haven’t been mum on the Ronaldo fiasco, and on Monday issued a statement:

“Manchester United notes the media coverage regarding an interview by Cristiano Ronaldo.”

“The club will consider its response after the full facts have been established.”

“Our focus remains on preparing for the second half of the season and continuing the momentum, belief and togetherness being built among the players, manager, staff, and fans.”
