Could Mhango exit open door for Pirates to snap up Eva Nga?

If Gabadinho Mhango makes an expected exit from Orlando Pirates, he could quite possibly be replaced by Chippa’s Bienvenu Eva Nga.

Mhango has been conspicuous by his absence from regular action at Pirates this season, especially considering how the striker had impressed for Malawi at the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

The 29-year-old enjoyed an unforgettable debut season at Pirates, and was one of the standouts for Malawi at the recent Afcon event, but that has not led to automatic selection on his return to the Buccaneers.

Recently, he actually hit out at Pirates after seemingly growing disillusioned at the club.

Yet, it now seems some of the comments may have been taken out of context when considering the latest comments from his representative Mike Makaab.

“I have met with the chairman (Khoza) and we had very fruitful discussions – he has said to me that if there’s an offer for Gabadinho that is reasonable and is also good for the player he will look at it seriously,” Makaab told SABC Sport.

“We didn’t want to discuss it in any great detail before this weekend because they had an important cup final (CAF Confederation Cup). What I will then do is engage the chairman after their last league game against Maritzburg United, and hopefully by that time we will have a clearer understanding as to where there are possibilities for Gaba. We will look locally, but we will also look outside the borders of South Africa.”

For quite some time, it’s also been reported that Cameroon forward Bienvenu Eva Nga’s is set to leave Chippa United, with a move to a Gauteng club on the cards.

TRANSFER TALK: LATEST ON CHIEFS LINKS WITH NGA, LETSOALO, DU PREEZ

Kaizer Chiefs were said to be interested in his services, but there has been talk that the parties couldn’t reach an agreement over his personal terms.

If Mhango does make his exit from Pirates, rumours suggest that the Buccaneers could then swoop for Eva Nga, effectively as a replacement.

“I think his heart is with the club, he is paid by the club, he must perform the duties of the club,” Ncikazi told SA FM’s SportON.

“He’s got a contract with the club, he must meet the contractual obligations, he comes to training on time. If he does that, like all players are doing – respect the protocol of the club, respect himself as a player – he will get selected.

“If he doesn’t he will be subjected to all protocols that are subjected to any person who doesn’t do what the club requires, it doesn’t change, it doesn’t choose a name.

“It’s between him and management. Currently, as a Pirates coach, I just concentrate on what’s happening on the field, that’s a matter for management and him,” Buccaneers coach continued.

“But for now he comes to training, we treat him like we treat every player. He gets an opportunity, he gets selected or not selected and it applies to everybody and Mhango is not different.”

According to a recently article published by Phakaaathi, Mhango was always set to leave Pirates, with a deal in Sweden reported to be an option on the table.

However, it will also be interesting to see whether Pirates could swoop in to sign the striker.
