Concerned Broos: I don’t know what’s happening with Tau!

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos says he will have a chat with Percy Tau to try and get to the bottom of his indifferent form.

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos showed his hand on Monday when he unveiled the final squad to face France and Guinea in friendly internationals to be played in Europe later this month.

Although there was some talk that Percy Tau might not be released to Bafana for these friendlies, he was included in the squad list revealed on Monday.

Tau previously enjoyed great success at Sundowns before enjoying spells in Belgium, with Union St Gilloise, Club Brugge and Anderlecht. He joined up with Pitso Mosimane at Al Ahly in 2021, but has only performed well in fits and bursts.

However, Broos has admitted that the form and performances of the 27-year-old were of some concern recently.

“Percy has a little bit of a problem at the moment. It’s not the Percy Tau that we are used to seeing. I know him very well from his time in Belgium,” Broos told SABC Sport.

“Before Christmas, he had a few injuries and he didn’t play for a few weeks so I thought, ‘Okay, this is the reason,’ because he didn’t have the tempo of the games.

“But now I saw him playing over the weekend and it’s not Percy Tau. I don’t know what’s happening with him but I will talk to him because I need to know. He can help us a lot with his talent but we need the best Percy Tau, so we will see.”
